To complete yesterday’s doings, we had an early supper. Having trotted along Fisherman’s Wharf a couple of times, which is a tad like Blackpool on Sea in parts, we found a diner that suited us, and decided on Clam Chowder, followed by Linguine with clams, in a white wine, butter and garlic sauce. Washed down by a Budweiser. Just the one! Very nice indeed.
We were totally exhausted having been awake for 24 hours by the time we turned in. Liz had seen an Olympus point and shoot camera she was thinking about getting, but decided to go back this morning when we were more compos mentis.
What an expensive return visit that was. She bought a more expensive camera than the one she originally looked at, and I ended up with a new HD lens – oops!
We were up early, and out by 7.30 a.m. having showered and made ourselves beautiful. We walked along the sea front, looked at the sea lions on Pier 39, walked through the shopping area, and found a restaurant serving breakfast at that ridiculous time of the morning. Liz wanted corned beef hash, so I decided to have the same as I hadn’t eaten it before. Well, it was good at the time, then half an hour later we both decided that was the last time we would have it! Kat, you would have hated it – two eggs, sunny side up, a slab of very crispy fried corned beef with onions, refried potatoes, toast, watermelon and orange slices – all on the same plate!
We decided to do a bus tour of San Francisco, which was great. Two and a half hours of sitting in the front seat of a tour bus, with the most gay tattooed guide, looking at everything. Photos were taken, Liz unfortunately left her jacket on the bus and we didn’t realise it until much later, and we headed off to book a whale-watching trip for tomorrow, as it is prime time to see hump back whales with their babies, and sun fish. That’s exciting! More on that tomorrow.
We had a late lunch of a bottle of wine and 4 of the tiniest pieces of tasteless cheese ($65!!) before heading back to the pharmacy for seasick pills in preparation for the whale watching trip in the morning.
Tonight we may head off to China Town for a meal – will keep you posted. Photos are difficult to upload as the fee for wifi is ridiculous in the hotel, so you will have to wait for that, but it’s a great trip so far. The morning was misty and chill, but it turned out to be a very warm day, and Liz has a very red nose!
Later :
We walked into Chinatown and had an authentic meal in a restaurant where fresh frogs and duck feet were on the menu. Needless to say, we played it safe! A good day, especially as Liz found her jacket had been handed in. Night everybody xxx
Hi mum. So great to hear about your adventures….and they’ve only just begun.
I’ve never tried clam chowder, would you order it again? As for the corned beef hash, well I don’t think you need me to go into details. But runny eggs, watermelon and orange all together? Sooooooo wrong!!!!
You got a new lens? Brill!! Have you used it yet? Can’t wait to see the piccies!!
Looking forward to hearing about the whale watching trip. Lady is well and I’ll show you piccies of her when you have the chance. she even ate a whole bowl of breakfast this morning and wanted more!!
Looking forward to hearing from you again soon with the next installment 😀
