We set off early from Virginia Beach in the pouring rain, thanking our lucky stars we had had two days of dry weather and some sunshine while we were in the area, and were able to walk around Back Bay reserve and sit on the beach for a while. In fact, we caught the sun/wind, and we both ended up with very attractive beetroot shaded faces!
it was a long drive to st Michaels, and we had to cross the Chesapeake Bay bridge tunnel, the most impressive construction some 17 miles long, which goes under and over the bay to allow containers and military ships up into Chesapeake Bay. We stopped for breakfast at the diner on the bridge, but the weather and low cloud meant there was nothing to photograph or see. We drove on through Virginia into Maryland at a steady 55 mph which is why it takes forever to get anywhere, and eventually reached St Michaels, a very pretty town on the shoreline with cutesy pie shops and ice cream parlours and gift stores aplenty. Our hotel is out of town, on a golf resort, where they are currently constructing a brand new course, so the place is deserted! Our room looks out over the water, so it’s a lovely vista. The photos I will put up show a little jetty in the far sight, and at the end of the jetty, on a man-made plinth, is the nest of a pair of Ospreys! The light wasn’t good yesterday, and I will try and get closer, but we didnt want to disturb them so the photos aren’t that clear.
tonight we will eat at the hotel, probably the only ones who will, so we hope at the chef hasn’t left for his holidays somewhere warmer than here! We are off exploring later and then tomorrow it’s back to Washington.

Great photos! Always wanted to see an Osprey! Looks like the weather has picked up too. You wont want to come home! xx
How wonderful to have ospreys that close. Hope the weather gets, or stays, better.
