We have been at Back Bay reserve again today, stopping on the way at a little fishing pier on a quiet beach on the way. Virginia Beach is quieter today, with everybody having gone back to work today, and we wanted to go and walk in the reserve. The beach is empty and the ghost crabs were popping out of their holes, and we saw more ospreys (but you’ve seen pics of their nests) and turtles (seen them too) and dolphins or porpoises … No good photos to show.
We had lunch at a beachside restaurant, and went for the soft shell crabs, not something either of us had tried before. It’s an entire mini crab, deep fried and was served in a bun … We probably won’t do that again. I won’t gross you out with details.
Tomorrow we are off to St Michaels, Maryland, for a couple of nights before returning to Washington. We have to negotiate the 17 mile long bridge/tunnel across Chesapeake Bay, so may stop to see if there are any photo opportunities. There are many container ships to be seen from Virginia Beach, and apparently many military aircraft carriers that pass through the channel. There have been Pelicans flying along the beach, military jets and helicopters up and down, so tomorrow is another adventure. The holiday is going so fast, but we are having so much fun. Liz is such a great travelling companion ?
Glad you are having so much fun. Love soft shelled crabs but have never thought of having them in a bun – life the American way I guess! Hope that the weather has improved and that you see lots of exciting things on the loooooooooong bridge. Given that hotels pay pennies for wifi it is staggering how much they want to charge for it!

It takes ages to download any media in the hotels we have stayed in, and I’m too tight to pay the extortionate costs they want to charge for high speed wifi! ?
